Ars Theoretica: On Scholar-Artists

This seminar explores the ways in which performance as an artistic practice entered and transformed academic scholarship of theatre and related arts. We will read some of the foundational texts and discuss some of the formative concepts in performance studies. In this seminar, there is also an emphasis on methodology: we will try to observe and analyze what sets performance studies scholarship from other similar academic pursuits, and to discern to what degree its close engagement with artistic practice shaped its procedures and methods.
