GEN 15732
Lighting Design for Musical Theater
Stanford University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Musical theater has an exceptional ability to communicate universal human truths and sweep audiences up into complex, emotional experiences. In productions that rely on music, movement, and sensory environments as major conduits of storytelling, dynamic and emotive lighting designs are a key component to compelling shows. In this class, we will explore a variety of musical theatre examples that will provide us with context and inspiration for our own designs. Students will have the opportunity to work on theoretical projects throughout the quarter, evolving designs from concepts through pre-production packages.
