Beauty in Light: The Aesthetics of Lighting Design
Stanford University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
What is beauty and what makes something beautiful? How do artists' cultural and life experiences inform their design interests and artwork? How does the interplay between thought and emotion manifest in a design? These are some of the questions that we'll consider as we explore the building blocks of artistically compelling lighting designs in live performance. Students will have the opportunity to investigate style, abstraction, and develop their own lighting design aesthetic through a series of hands-on design projects in the Light Lab.
