Catalog description

In this discussion-based seminar, we will explore a range of policy challenges that have been on the political agenda over time and the factors that influence how the American political system addresses them. Likely topics include health care, social policy, immigration and economic policy. Through readings and conversations with occasional speakers, we will examine the way history, discourse, political institutions and events shape policy outcomes. Students will be invited to contribute policy topics for discussion as well. Assignments will include short written 'memos' and a group project. This course is offered in person in Washington D.C. to students in the Bing Stanford in Washington Program only.
