Catalog description

New York City is home to news organizations with national and international reach, to multinational corporations, and to financial firms that structure world capital markets. This course will explore the business of news and the news about business by examining the work of New York based media. Broad themes covered will include how news is financed, the role of journalism in democracy, the relation between identity and objectivity in reporters' decisions, and the evolving use of data and algorithms in discovering and telling stories. Particular attention will be focused on coverage of tech, business, and finance stories involving New York.
