Catalog description
In this course, students will read a wide range of texts written by Muslim authors covering topics as diverse as law, religion, philosophy, and statecraft. Attention will be given to covering major authors such as al-Ghazali, Ibn Arabi, and Ibn Taymiyya, with an emphasis on understanding major themes and questions that have emerged from within the Islamic intellectual tradition. All texts will be read in English translation, but a separate section will be arranged for students with Arabic background to read texts in the original Arabic.
