Burning Questions: When They Arise and Why They Matter

This seminar centers on fundamental questions about the questions we ask. What counts as a burning question? What are the contexts - developmental, institutional, situational, personal - in which burning questions arise? How do they affect how we make sense of ourselves, others, and the world around us? When they - or the answers they provoke - are destructive, what can we do to help ourselves or others? What do burning questions tell us about our values, our needs, and what it is to be a person (and the particular person you are)? Meetings will be discussion based. Instructor permission required.
