Stanford University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course is a research design practicum. Students are required to propose a research question that speaks to a consequential political issue and can be successfully addressed relying on disciplinary tools. Over the quarter, they will be guided through the elements of research design needed to address their chosen question, including motivation, theory, empirical design, data collection, and presenting results and conclusions. The final product will be either a paper (en route to a peer-reviewed journal) or a project prospectus (en route to an NSF grant). Those not in the Ph.D. program in political science must get consent from the instructor to enroll.
