Catalog description

This course will cover basic foundations and touch on more advanced frontiers of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. Topics to be covered depending on time and interest include: brownian motion, Langevin and Fokker-Planck equations, linear response theory and transport phenomena, phase transitions out of equilibrium, dynamics of surface roughening, phase-ordering kinetics, and pattern formation, The course will adopt a variety of learning tools that include traditional lectures and in-class AI assisted coding.
