Catalog description

Learn practical skills required to be a successful Teaching Assistant for the Physics department. The class consists of in-class sessions for the first 5 weeks of the quarter and practicum activities spaced throughout the quarter. Topics include grading, solution-writing, and teaching physics both in general and in an active-learning environment. Typically required of all Teaching Assistants prior to their first teaching assignment. Attendance at all class sessions and practicum activities is mandatory for successful completion of this course. Incoming graduate students who were required to submit a TOEFL score as part of their application for admission must complete their TA screening prior to taking this class. International students admitted before Autumn 2023 who were not required to submit a TOEFL score should request a waiver.
