Catalog description
PAs in Health Care IV Leadership, Reflections, Preparing for Practice, and Thesis and Scholarship: The PAs in Health Care IV course is a 12-month long course that provides tools necessary for the student to learn leadership skills, foster patient care, prepare for clinical practice, and complete the thesis project. The Leadership thread is designed to provide students with a foundation for leadership that extends throughout the course of their career and beyond. The course will teach students the often overlooked soft skills that are essential to become successful clinicians, partners, and humans. The majority of these courses are meant to be interactive to allow for robust discussion of topics that are rooted in individual experience. The Reflections thread is designed to provide structured time independent of clinical clerkship duties, in order to promote both reflection on and reinforcement for learning in the clinical environment. Reflections aim to provide students a safe and collaborative space to consider and discuss the impact of different, often emotionally fraught, issues that arise from clinical experiences on clerkships and within the healthcare setting. The Preparing for Practice series includes topics surrounding workforce entry, professional licensing and certification requirements, navigating the insurance and liability landscape, pearls for the management of challenging workplace situations and self-care. For the Thesis and Scholarship, students are expected to analyze background knowledge and medical literature related to an area of scholarly interest. During the thesis project students are expected to demonstrate strong writing skills by completing a thesis and deliver a research presentation. This course is offered to students enrolled in the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program only.Prerequisite: Successful completion of PAS 293
