Clinical Therapeutics I (PAS 242) is the first course of a 4-part series focused on pharmacology and clinical therapeutics. The pharmacology component will focus on mechanism of action, clinical use, contraindications, adverse reactions, and clinically significant drug interactions of various drug classes. The clinical therapeutics component will focus on medical management of diseases with an emphasis on patient specific drug managementDiscipline-specific topics include:Pharmacology: - Basic principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and drug interactions - Mechanism of action, clinical use, contraindications, adverse reactions, and clinically significant drug interactions of various drug classes/drugs Clinical Therapeutics: - Antimicrobial selection- Antimicrobial spectrum of activity- Disease-state management:- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections, Acne and Psoriasis, Common Dermatological Conditions, OTC Pain/Fever, Cough/Cold/Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis (SAR), Upper Respiratory Tract Infections, Osteoarthritis, gout, and Rheumatoid ArthritisThis course is offered to students enrolled in the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program only.
