Catalog description

This course involves fundamental instruction in hiking skills and techniques. Students will engage in a variety of hikes that will help improve their overall physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Students will learn the conditioning associated with hiking, the selection of equipment, navigation, the Leave No Trace Principles, and basic first and survival topics, along with trip planning. This course will also utilize class instruction, assignments, and student participation to enable students to (1) understand the basic components of fitness, health, and wellness. (2) develop physical fitness and motor skills, and (3) gain knowledge to make intelligent choices that contribute to a healthy, active lifestyle.
