Relief Printing as Installation

Catalog description

This course teaches students the foundations of the relief printing process, emphasizing carving and printing techniques on linoleum and rubber blocks. Students will learn how to develop drawings and transfer them onto blocks, operate an etching press, and print their images onto paper and fabric. This course encourages students to think about their work sculpturally, and implements processes that give their printed work form and dimensionality. Some techniques we will be going over include wheat pasting, printing on textiles and creating wire armatures. This course asks students to think about printmaking as an intervention, both conceptually and through material.
