Independent Study in Scientific Inquiry: Science in the Context of Madrid

Catalog description

This course invites students to design and carry out an independent research project under the mentorship of Prof. Jan Skotheim, exploring how the scientific method is applied in the cultural, historical, or social context of Madrid. Students will identify a research question relevant to local life in Spain and pursue answers through observation, data collection, and hypothesis testing. Projects may focus on areas including sports science, gastronomy, or the legacy of figures like Santiago Ramón y Cajal. The course emphasizes original investigation and critical thinking. Students will present their findings in an oral presentation at the end of the term. Regular one-on-one meetings with Prof. Skotheim will guide project development, methodology, and analysis. IMPORTANT: Students can enroll in either OSPMADRID 199F or OSPMADRID 55F, but not both.
