In past decades, scholars have done much to foster a broader understanding of the Renaissance, challenging the myths that have long shaped both the concept itself and the ways in which we have interpreted it. Florence and its monuments are central to this reappraisal. Conceived as an itinerary through the city, the ten in situ seminars that make up this course pursue a twofold aim: to introduce students to the Florentine canon through direct engagement with its sites and objects, and to review that same canon in the light of recent contributions in the field of Renaissance studies.
