Catalog description
Technology is one of the most powerful forces in our political and social world. In this course, we attempt to understand how technology has shaped, and continues to shape, governance and society in China. By engaging with diverse sources from social science research to on-the-ground practitioners, we will try to understand the role that technology has and continues to play in China's current governance and situate China's approach in a comparative, global context. We will explore a range of technological innovations, with a focus on digital communication technologies and applications of machine learning and generative AI.
