Catalog description

In this introductory course, we will explore the fascinating world of the epigenome and its critical role in neuronal health and disease. You will learn how complex biological processes, such as organ development and cellular responses to the environment, are dependent on genetic programs regulated by epigenetic factors. Throughout the course, we will introduce big questions using the retina as a model: How do epigenetic modifications regulate development? How changes in the epigenome contribute to aging? How can cutting-edge technologies help us analyze and manipulate the epigenome? Can we hack the epigenome to rejuvenate and regenerate neuronal tissues? Classes will include hands-on activities, such as visualization of gene expression and epigenomic profiles.
