Readings will include essays and selections from their letters along with excerpts from Mahler & Strauss: In Dialogue by Charles Youmans, Constantin Floros on Mahler's symphonies, The Cambridge Companion to Mahler, and The Cambridge Companion to Richard Strauss. Students will attend performances of Mahler 7th by the San Francisco Symphony on February 9 and Strauss's Death and Transfiguration by Symphony San Jose on March 9.
