VISITING: Closed to visitors. TYPE OF CLERKSHIP: Selective III. DESCRIPTION: The longitudinal Community Health of the Underserved Clerkship is part of the Health Equity Education Initiative. The clerkship will provide students with an immersive experience in caring for the medically underserved at a community site such as a FQHC or a community clinic. Students will explore concepts in health equity and learn clinical skills in working with underserved populations such as patients lacking stable housing, refugees, and Black and/or Latinx patients. Students may also rotate in a variety of specialties as available, including: cardiology, dermatology, orthopedics, rheumatology, and urology. Students are released from other clerkships for one afternoon a week for a minimum of 6 half-days for an 8-week clerkship, 4 half-days for a 6-week clerkship, and 3 half-days for a 4-week clerkship. PREREQUISITES: 3rd and 4th year. PERIODS AVAILABLE: 1-12, one afternoon a week for a minimum of 14 half-day sessions (3 units), 28 half-days (for 6 units) over contiguous months, 7 students per period.
