Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy

VISITING: Open to visitors. TYPE OF CLERKSHIP: Elective. DESCRIPTION: This elective will introduce students to blood and marrow transplant and cell therapy. First, students will participate in the inpatient care of these patients, learning about clinical and laboratory assessments for adult recipients. Second, they will learn about the complexities of hematopoietic cell transplantation, including autologous and allogeneic grafts and conditioning regimens. Third, students will gain clinical experience with cellular therapies such as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy. Finally, students will learn about potential toxicities following bone marrow transplant and cell therapy, along with their management. PREREQUISITES: MED 300A/Medicine Core Clerkship. REPORTING INSTRUCTIONS: Students will be advised regarding the location in the hospital to meet the inpatient team on the first day of rounds.
