Translational Wisdom in Medicine: Bridging Generations: Past, Present, and Future invites early medical students to explore the evolution of the medical profession through the eyes of distinguished senior and emeritus faculty. The curriculum offers a rich blend of historical context and contemporary advances, tracing how clinical care, research, and teaching have transformed over the past several decades and how understanding where medicine has been in the past will help guide us into the future. Students will engage directly with faculty whose careers span eras before the rise of evidence-based medicine, patient-centered care, and digital research technologies, providing unique firsthand accounts of foundational shifts in the field.Central topics will include the increasing emphasis on patient autonomy and the patient experience, highlighting how shared decision-making and respect for individual values have become central to today's medical ethics and practice. The course also examines landmark scientific breakthroughs - such as the development and clinical application of immune therapies and emerging cell-based treatments - with attention to their scientific underpinnings and impact on patient care. On the educational front, the course covers the transition from lecture based to interactive, case-based, and self-directed teaching methods.
