Spanish Medical Interpreting Skills for Community Clinics

Catalog description
This course provides bilingual undergraduates with foundational training in Spanish medical interpreting for community clinic settings. Through interactive lectures, simulations, and case-based learning, students develop skills in medical terminology, interpreter ethics, cultural humility, and patient-centered communication. The course includes one quarter (1 unit) of didactic instruction followed by three consecutive quarters (2 units each) of supervised clinical interpreting service in partnering community clinics, preparing students to expand language access while gaining hands-on experience in equitable clinical care. This is a Cardinal Course certified by the Haas Center for Public Service.
