Catalog description

Starting with the blacksmiths of ancient history, we will trace the evolution of metallurgy into the scientific innovations of modern day technology. We will learn how metals in our bodies can be used for diagnostics and treatments, how metals in geology can provide clues about the formation of planets, and how metallic 3D printing is being developed to make next-generation aircraft engines. Through in-class discussions, guest lectures, and hands-on labs, we will learn about the fascinating intersections between metal science and society.
