Catalog description
This course establishes the fundamental principles of compressible fluids and relevant thermodynamics with a focus on high-speed aerospace applications. Key topics include the derivation of the speed of sound, one-dimensional isentropic flow through nozzles and diffusers, the formation and analysis of normal and oblique shock waves, and Prandtl-Meyer expansion fans. The course will further explore flows with friction (Fanno flow) and heat addition (Rayleigh flow), emphasizing practical applications such as supersonic inlets, rocket nozzle performance, and wind tunnel design to provide a theoretical foundation required for advanced studies in applied aerodynamics and propulsion.
