This course provides the necessary background and practical hands-on experience in microbiology required for non-nursing students entering the healthcare field. This course emphasizes hands on training in the principles and practices of maintaining sterility and aseptic technique skills as well as special focus on preventing infections during perioperative and interventional treatments in hospital and clinical settings. Topics include the history of microbiology, characteristics of microorganisms, the differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, host/microbe interactions and the role of genetic changes in these relationships, legal concepts, risk and ethical issues associated with working in the healthcare field.<br><br>Prerequisite BSC 1084C with a minimum grade of C or (Prerequisite BSC 2085 with a minimum grade of C and Prerequisite BSC 2085L with a minimum grade of C and Prerequisite BSC 2086 with a minimum grade of C and Prerequisite BSC 2086L with a minimum grade of C)
