Catalog description

The third of five ESL courses, this college preparatory course is designed to enhance basic skills in reading, writing, structure, and vocabulary building. Students develop the ability to write more sophisticated structured academic paragraphs in various rhetorical modes and execute other academic writing tasks. They continue to develop academic reading abilities, including texts on contemporary and literary topics with an emphasis on extensive reading and the enhancement of critical reading skills. They also develop the ability to use intermediate-level grammatical structures appropriate to classroom discussion, oral presentation and the writing of more sophisticated academic paragraphs with an emphasis on increased accuracy. Group interaction, critical thinking skills, and appreciation of cultural differences in learning approaches are incorporated in instructional techniques. (NOTE: Credit for EAP 0495 cannot be used toward graduation.)<br><br>Prerequisite EAP 0395 with a minimum grade of C or Prerequisite an appropriate score on the standardized EAP placement test
