Catalog description

This is a course designed to survey American literature to 1865, with special emphasis on Romanticism and Realism as well as methods of library research, writing of the research paper and the paper of literary interpretation. Included are selected works of major writers such as Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, and Emily Dickinson. This course partially satisfies the writing requirements as outlined in the General Education Requirements. (Note: Credit is not given for both AML 2010 and AML 2010H.)<br><br>Prerequisite ENC 1101 with a minimum grade of C or Prerequisite ENC 1101H with a minimum grade of C or Prerequisite IDS 1101H with a minimum grade of C or Prerequisite IDS 1111H with a minimum grade of C or Prerequisite appropriate score on the college placement test
