Catalog description

This course examines literary depictions of Jesus’ apostles and disciples in the New Testament and other early Christian texts. Students will study the identities, expectations, and perceptions of these people, gaining an understanding of the roles they played during Jesus’ lifetime and how their work transformed after his death, during the period when Christ-believing communities were founded, grew, and changed. Through an examination of later historical cases students will explore the legacy of the disciples and apostles in the contemporary world. Prerequisites TH 1301 or SMC 1314 or HO 1305 .
