Catalog description
This course introduces students to the Gospel according to Matthew through close reading of select texts and an application of various interpretive methods for understanding the gospel. It will cover topics that are distinctive to Matthew such as righteousness, discipleship, authority, and intertextual engagement with the Hebrew Scriptures. Students will explore the historical context of Matthew’s gospel and the history of its interpretation through to the contemporary period. Prerequisites TH 1301 or SMC 1314 .
