Catalog description
This course introduces students to the Gospel according to Mark through close reading of select texts and an application of various interpretive methods for understanding the gospel. It will cover topics that are distinctive to Mark such as the messianic secret, the reign of God, the suffering servant, eschatology, and the theology of the cross. Students will explore the historical context of Mark’s gospel and the history of its interpretation through to the contemporary period. Prerequisites TH 1301 or SMC 1314 .
