Catalog description
Explores philosophical approaches to language in a variety of social and political contexts. Introduces classical topics in the philosophy of language, such as meaning, truth, reference, naming, speech acts, and/or language games. Examines language use and linguistic identity in philosophical approaches to race, class, gender, nationality, and disability. Considers the political uses of language and political dimensions of linguistic difference, which may include issues of silencing, hate speech, linguistic terrorism, and/or linguistic resistance. Requires Research.
