Catalog description

This course will explore human language from both a biological and a social perspective. The aim of this course is to give students an introduction to the different features of human language and the principal areas of linguistic analysis, which they will then use to identify how languages fit into the contexts of different societies. By the end of the semester, students will examine in depth one particular sociopolitical context and the role that language(s) play within it. A laboratory fee is charged.
