Introduction to Java applications. Control structures and arrays in Java. Object-oriented programming principles: Encapsulation, abstraction, inheritance, and polymorphism. Objects and classes. Unified modeling language (UML). Strings and text manipulation. Exception handling. Graphics and Java2D. Graphical User Interface (GUI) components. Layout managers. Event-driven connection (JDBC). Extensive use of Java programming. (Fall only) Prerequisites: EG 1213 or CS 1310 , and EG 1316 .
