Professional Identity in Counselor Education and Supervision.

Catalog description

This course provides an experience for doctoral counseling students to advance their professional identity through mentoring and involvement in the counseling profession. Students will explore opportunities for leadership in professional organizations, including the process of developing and submitting conference presentation proposals, journal manuscripts, and research- and practice-related grants. Students will learn about the foundational principles on which counselor education is based, including and exploration of the ethical and legal standards that govern professional practice. Additionally, this course serves as an introduction to the professional roles of counselor educators, namely counseling, teaching, research, supervision, and leadership and advocacy. Prerequisite – Admission to the Ph.D. program.
