Catalog description
The doctoral internship is a two-semester experience (encompassed in CN 8359 Doctoral Internship I and CN 8360 Doctoral Internship II) that is designed to give doctoral students clinical experiences in core areas related to their professional development as counselor educators. Students are required to complete at least 600 hours of clinical and professional experiences over 2 semesters in the following 5 areas of development: Counseling, Supervision, Teaching, Research, and Leadership and Advocacy. The experiences are planned under the direction of their academic advisors and must allow the doctoral student to engage in counselor educator activities. The clinical experiences must incorporate multiple areas of development and must include (at the minimum) counseling, supervision, and teaching opportunities. Favorable evaluations by all supervisors are required for course credit. Prerequisites: CN 8309 – Theory and Practice of University Teaching; CN 8325 – Process of Supervision in Counselor Education; and CN 8355 – Advanced Counseling Theories and Practice.
