Catalog description

The general public once viewed hip-hop as a trend that would fade by the end of 1980s. it has since grown from local gatherings to impact language, fashion, and art on a global scale. In addition to studying the art form's international expansion, this interdisciplinary course will examine hip hop as literature and cinema. It will also explore the role of lyricists as cultural, social, and political commentators, and investigate the evolution of hip-hop filmmakers as they produced media in the lineage of historical moments such as the Harlem Renaissance and the Black Arts Movement.
