Catalog description

A course designed to prepare students with the theories and techniques for adapting physical activities in inclusive and alternative settings. Students will study historical and contemporary trends and issues related to programming physical activities for persons with disabilities. Included would be an examination of assessments and the IEP process, parental concerns related to special education, and the nature of physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral disabilities and spectrum disorders. Students will also learn to modify and adapt individual, dual and team sports. Safety concerns will be stressed throughout the course. A required 10-hour practicum provides experiences in physical activity programs.
