Catalog description

This early-program professional seminar introduces occupational therapy students to the foundational expectations, values, and professional roles of occupational therapy practice. The course supports students transition into graduate-level study and the occupational therapy profession through structured exploration of professional identity, ethical conduct, communication, and reflective practice. Through role play, guided reflection, introductory case examples, and professional skill-building activities, students examine the scope of occupational therapy practice, professional standards, and the responsibilities of occupational therapists within healthcare, educational, and community-based systems. Emphasis is placed on exploration of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (OTPF-4), developing professional behaviors, self-awareness, cultural humility, academic integrity, and collaborative skills essential for success in coursework and future fieldwork experiences.
