Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to the corrections process and examines state, local, and federal, correctional systems in the United States. The evolution, philosophy, structure, roles and responsibilities, and theoretical underpinnings of the different types of correctional agencies will be discussed. An overview of the effectiveness of the various parts of the correctional system will discussed in addition to the impact the correctional system has on recidivism. Prisons rights over the years will also be examined.
