Catalog description

This course focuses on bacterial diversity, structure, metabolism, growth and growth control, development of resistance, biofilms, genetics, genomic evolution, and population heterogeneity. Viral diversity, growth, and modes of replication are also investigated. Microbial interactions (microbiomes and host-pathogen interactions) are explored. The hands-on lab component reinforces lecture topics and employs both biochemical and genetic organism identification.
