Catalog description

This course is designed to build on students’ exploration in their 100-level Wellness and Physical Literacy course. Students select this course based on their Physical Literacy and Wellness Plan and strive to go in-depth with specific wellness subcategories and one to two movement areas of their choice. Outdoor Adventure Activities involve a variety of outdoor pursuits including, but not limited to - rock climbing, challenge courses, flat water canoeing, white water kayaking, disc golf, hiking and backpacking, land navigation, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and mountain biking while simultaneously embracing leave no trace principals. This course is taught utilizing an experiential learning instructional model and promotes social, intellectual and environmental dimensions of wellness throughout the semester. Students explore skill assessment and progression, risk management issues, group dynamics, and industry best practices in relation to the outdoor adventure activities.
