Becoming Skilled in Wellness and Physical Literacy: Endurance Sports

This course is designed to build on students’ exploration of their 100-level Wellness and Physical Literacy course. Students select this course based on their Wellness and Physical Literacy Plan and strive to go in-depth with specific wellness subcategories and one to two movement areas of their choice. This course is designed to build skill and knowledge in endurance training regimens, program design, and emotional and mental wellness. Students investigate training principles as they create meaningful goals and recognize the connection between endurance training and mental health, allowing them to make healthy lifestyle choices. Areas explored are: aerobic and anaerobic running for endurance and distance; cross-training modalities such as swimming, aqua jogging, and cycling; warmup and cooldown exercise routines; emotional wellness, intellectual wellness, self-care, and healthy decision-making. The Wellness concepts integrated throughout the semester align with the defined areas of wellness in the Wellness Passport.
