In this course, the Practicum and Seminar are taken concurrently as an integrated foundation experience in social work practice. Students will apply, integrate, and enhance theories, knowledge, and skills gained in the classroom. In the agency-based practicum, the direct service experience may require psycho-social assessments, interagency collaboration, and relationship-based services provided to individuals and groups. The community organization experience supports student’s development in the ability to collaboratively conceptualize and effectively implement projects that address identified needs facing the community served. The community project will incorporate the Council on Social Work Education’s Competency 3, “Engage Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) in Practice.” It will positively impact, increase awareness, and enhance advocacy for historically marginalized communities. In the Seminar and Practicum courses, students will receive additional instruction on practicum related-assignments, have opportunities to consult with their peers and course instructor, gain additional knowledge and skills regarding professionalism, maximize their learning, engage in critical self-reflection, and receive opportunities to prepare for advanced and post-graduate professional success.
