The course will provide opportunities for students to build social work practice skills in assessment and intervention of substance use disorders. Practice skills will focus on research informed interventions at the micro, mezzo, and macro level. Local, state, and federal policies and initiatives will be reviewed along with current community based and public health initiatives (i.e. MA-SBIRT and Integrated Behavioral Health Care). Risk, protective factors, resiliency factors, assessment, treatment, recovery models, and culturally responsive intervention are addressed in each course module.
