Catalog description

This course is an introduction to the historical context while looking at the ideologies of race and contemporary struggles against anti-Black racism. Race is often considered highly contextual; therefore, this class’s emphasis will focus on racism in the Springfield College environment compared with national events. This course will focus on a range of perspectives about race and identity, which will help to more clearly define what race is, why it matters, and the interconnectedness of racial dynamics and institutional policies, especially on college campuses. Silence is not an option; words without action are not enough.
