Catalog description

In recent decades, health care delivery has moved to an evidence-based model, whereby health care providers and policy makers are expected to make health-related recommendations that are informed by research evidence, clinical expertise, and patient values. In this course, students critically evaluate health research with the goal of identifying effective treatment and prevention strategies, and consider how providers incorporate research evidence with their clinical experiences to inform and empower patients to make clinical decisions. Topics covered in this course include a review of health statistics and epidemiologic principles and methods, randomized clinical trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, shared decision making, and using the PICO framework to formulate and answer clinical questions.
