Catalog description

This course introduces students to the concepts of and methods of implementing and sustaining community health education. The course provides an overview of community health education theoretical foundations, analysis of community health strategies for local, national and cross-border/international health; application of theoretical models and cultural competency to community health education planning, evaluation and research. Students will discuss important community health topics including systems perspectives that lead to coordination of health promotion and community health programs to achieve community health goals; the nature of community health and its determinants; community mobilization and capacity building; and the impact of current national policy, including the Affordable Care Act, on community health improvement. Students will acquire practical skills in implementing interventions and will develop an implementation plan for the intervention they develop during the course.
