Contemporary Issues in Education

Catalog description

This seminar addresses contemporary issues in education including, but not restricted to, education policy, academic standards, social justice, multicultural education, special education, curriculum, and educational institutions in a changing society. Readings of contemporary writings in education, interaction with guest speakers, and viewing of videos which cover current educational issues form the basis of classroom discussion. This course encourages critical thinking, the formulation of clear arguments, and active listening skills. This course is centered on exploring in the educational literature issues and concerns related to your work and practice around today’s issues. Through your problems of practice we will explore how research attempts to address these questions. As a class we will create a community of inquiry.
