Catalog description

This course builds upon the background from DANC 180 and DANC 280, further exploring historical linkages of African diaspora dance forms through dance movement forms based within the Afro-American, Caribbean and Latin American communities. This course provides students with an advanced understanding of the core fundamentals for the execution and performance of this dynamic art form, as well as the cultural and social impacts and influences. Ceremonial dance, including festival, war, court, and ritual forms, as well as social and processional forms practiced in Africa and the African Diaspora, are explored. Students develop an increased mental, emotional, physical, and aesthetic awareness of various African Diaspora dance forms.
